A new, eco-friendly neighbourhood in the Philippines is hoping to become a model for development in the Asian Region.

Nuvali, built on a former sugar plantation, is incorporating cutting-edge amenities like a bike-share system and electric busses to transport workers and residents in an efficient, eco-friendly way.

Jun Bisnar Nuvali Senior Vice President and GM told CNN’s Pauline Chiou that they hope to create an “eco city development that will be a model sustainable city in our country and probably Asia and the world.”

Half of the development will be left as open land and will include public facilities like a bird sanctuary and hiking trails.

All the new homes built on site include simple eco measures like open, cross ventilating windows, and developers are encouraging, but not enforcing more expensive amenities like rainwater tanks and solar power.
